Jenn not only is a motivational speaker but she is a leadership coach and shares all of her knowledge on her weekly podcast called the Weekly Alignment. Keep reading to learn how you too can show up in life and make it happen!
1. You’re a motivational speaker, leadership coach and host of the amazing weekly podcast The Weekly Alignment what inspired you to create this empire you’ve created?
As with most things, the trajectory of my life and business only makes sense in hindsight. For a long time, I had no idea what I was really trying to create…I just continued to walk through the doors as they opened, listening to my intuition every step of the way. I moved to NYC in 2007 after graduating from Point Park University in my home town of Pittsburgh, PA. a dance conservatory where I received my BA in Dance with a concentration in Jazz and a minor in Business. Once I found myself in NYC, I quickly realized that the lifestyle of a professional dancer wasn’t the life I truly wanted. I was easily overwhelmed by the audition process and would often sabotage myself by not going to callbacks and not attending classes. I decided to take a break from dancing to explore other areas of my creativity and passion. This lead me to co-write an off-off Broadway show titled “MidTwenties: The Show” as well as co-write an album titled “Anthems”. Both of these endeavors were exciting in their own right, but I was still left feeling like there was something else I was meant to do. One day, while I was selling comedy tickets on the streets of NYC to fund the “soul searching” expedition I was on, I was presented with an opportunity to come work for a Talent Management company representing actors for film and TV. This opportunity would become one of the biggest turning points of my life, professionally, to date. This is where I began to sharpen my business skills, learn how to manage (and coach) creative minds and know how to package someone in a way that made others want to work with them. Throughout the 5 years of running this talent management company I began to offer workshops for actors to teach them the business of entertainment. This lead to coaching actors on how to market themselves, pitch themselves and feel confident in themselves and what they have to offer. It was during this time that I fell in love with the idea of being a coach and a speaker. I have been a full time coach and speaker since 2014 and know that all of the experience I’ve had leading up to this has played an integral part in HOW I show up in my work today.
2. Are your clients primarily female? What do you help them achieve that they can’t seem to figure out on their own?
Yes, the clients I work with are primarily female. I work with women to help them learn that it’s SAFE to Shine. I work with women who have a message or mission to share with the world. A message that comes from deep within their Soul, a message that has the power to change the world for the better, a message that sometimes feels TOO powerful…too big…”too much”. I help women feel confident in being SEEN in their greatness, while also knowing HOW to show up in the world in a way that feels aligned. It’s possible to make a difference and make money without struggling every step of the way. When a woman gives herself permission to be SEEN in the world for who she truly is, she is unstoppable.
3. What’s been your biggest pinch me moment so far with your business?
About 2 years ago I found myself on a stage at Google headquarters in NYC speaking on the concept of Conscious Leadership and the importance of leading yourself the way you wish to lead others. This was truly a “pinch me” moment in my business. To be honest, I was also experiencing quite a bit of “Impostor Syndrome” — I was convinced that someone was going to find out that I didn’t have a clue what I was talking about and they would expose me as the fraud I truly was. Granted NONE of that happened, and it turned out to be a truly incredible presentation…but I think it’s important for me to be transparent about the fact that those “pinch me” moments are often met with some seriously powerful DOUBT, and if you don’t know how to move through it, that doubt could rob you of some of your most magical moments.
4. With balancing all the projects you are balancing how do you organize your life? Do you have any time saving hacks you can share with us?
DELEGATE!! I’m a control freak type-A perfectionist who has had to learn the power of delegation. The truth is, we can NOT do it all…at least, not it we want it done well and efficiently. If you’re running 180 mph convincing yourself that you will take a break right after you complete this “next” goal, you’re kidding yourself. You know as well as I do that as soon as you hit that goal there will be another goal set within 30 seconds, and you’ll be off to the races. TRUST the timing of how things are unfolding and give yourself the support you truly need to feel SUPPORTED along the way. Supported women SHINE. Period.
5. Will we ever have the chance to see the Jenn Lederer show? Where do you see the Jenn Lederer brand in the next 5 years?
OMG I know better than to even try to predict what my life and business will look like 5 years from now. All I know is, I plan to continue to EXPAND and SHINE to my highest potential…and seeing as how (we are all) infinite beings, I have a feeling my light will be shining pretty bright by the year 2022. I will certainly be traveling the world with my presentations, workshops and motivational stand-up set. I hope to continue to SHOW others that it’s Safe to Shine by committing to showing up as my best self each and every moment that I’m blessed enough to be on this earth.
