Six Degrees Society NYC Presents Ask For it: Negotiation Basics Every Woman Needs To Know, With Alexandra Dickinson

The gender wage gap costs a full time working woman an average of $435,000+ over the course of her career.

What's Happening? A woman needs to work 11 additional years to achieve income equality with a male counterpart. And if that wasn’t bad enough, when a woman reaches retirement age, she earns in less social security, since benefits are determined by wage history, and her savings must stretch about 4.9 years longer based on average life expectancy.

We may not be formally taught how to negotiate in school, but that doesn’t mean it’s too late to learn. You can develop your negotiation skills now so that you can advocate for yourself in all aspects of your work and life.

Key Takeaways:
- the negotiation basic every professional needs to know
-setting and validating your goals
-overcoming obstacles with confidence
-negotiation tactics for women in a time of #metoo and #timesup
-logistics of making and receiving offers

 When: Wednesday, February 21st, 7-9pm

Where: Eileen Fisher- The Shops at Columbus Circle 10 Columbus Cir #205, New York, NY 10019

Food/Drink: Enjoy adult beverages and light bites throughout the evening!

Six Degrees Society NYC Presents How To Be A Boss At PowerPoint With Leah Williams

  • KettleSpace @ TriBeCa @ Distilled NY (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Do you hate PowerPoint and wish it would die a sad, miserable death? We do too. But it doesn't have to be that way. (Also since your boss makes you use it for EVERYTHING.) Yes, this is an event - on a weekday morning - about PowerPoint. Not the greatest pitch, we know. But with Leah Williams's help, you might despise it a little bit less. She'll cover things like how to use the right fonts & colors, how to create great layouts that don't look like they are from 2003 and key guidelines to follow if you want to keep your audience's attention throughout your presentation.

PowerPoint will hopefully crash and burn one day - but until then, learn how to tame it, not blame it.

Be sure to bring a willingness to drink caffeine and a notepad/pen!

When: Thursday, February 15th, 8:30am-10:30am

Where: KettleSpace TriBeCa @ Distilled NY , 211 W Broadway, New York, NY 10012

Matches: Each attendee will submit a bio before the event. Based on these bios you will be matched up with two 15 minute curated connections for the night!

Food/Beverage: Enjoy light bites and a lot of caffeine!

Six Degrees Society Hamptons Retreat October 12-15th

We’re so excited to announce that we're launching our first ever Six Degrees Society retreat in the Hamptons.

What: The most successful element of our events has always centered around curation. In keeping with this theme, we’ll be making this retreat extra special by handpicking two people that you will work with for 1 hour each day. Based on a give/take model, you will have the opportunity to help one person while learning from the other, three days in a row.

When: Arrive in the evening of Thursday, October 12th and leave Sunday, October 15th.

Curated Matches: Having created hundreds of curated matches over the last few years, I’ve noticed connections struggled with finding time. Time to sit down and learn, to help and to be present. Help me curate collaborations that will make the most of our time by filling out the application to let us learn a little more about you. The application will ask a few questions for you to let us know what skills you would like to learn, what skills you're comfortable teaching someone, and overall, what you're hoping to gain from this experience.

Six Degrees Society Presents Tackling Imposter Syndrome With Rebecca Kronman

Ever get that feeling that you're moments away from being "outed" as an inexperienced amateur?

Imposter syndrome is an issue that, because of socialization, disproportionately affects women, especially those in their first few years of the workforce.

This workshop will help you discover where and how the syndrome shows up for you, recognize what kinds of thought patterns reinforce it and help you adjust them. We'll talk about making small tweaks in your thinking and your body to help you feel better and more confident, explore your skill sets and learn how to present them unapologetically. You'll walk away with simple techniques to help you kick the syndrome and keep kicking ass.

Key takeaways include:

-Learn about imposter syndrome and how it works in the brain
-Understand how imposter syndrome affects your thinking
-Discover new ways to present your skill sets in the workforce
-Implement body and self-talk techniques to change thought patterns about your capabilities

Six Degrees Society NYC Presents The Art of The Big Talk

Have you ever wanted to tell your story? Tricia Brouk, writer/director of film, tv and theater and executive producer of TEDxLincolnSquare, wants to ignite the spark in you. Come with your idea and leave with confidence to not only write your big talk, but also apply for a big stage.

In addition to working in the entertainment industry, Tricia Brouk applies her expertise as a director and writer for film, television and theater to the art of big talks and keynotes. She nurtures speakers using the same techniques she does with actors by guiding them to become their most vulnerable selves in order to truly connect with their audience.

She offers speakers a new point of view on what a big talk can be and how to achieve their goal, and often times, their dream, of taking a big stage. She’s worked on Black Box on ABC, The Affair on Showtime, Rescue Me on Fox, and John Turturro’s Romance and Cigarettes, where she received a Golden Thumb Award from Roger Ebert. The series she directed, Sublets, won Best Comedy at The Vancouver Web-Festival. She’s the executive producer of Syd and Mike and is currently directing and producing a feature film she’s also written. She’s also written two musicals, a play, and a sitcom pilot. She hosts The Big Talk podcast on iTunes, where she talks about how she applies her expertise to the art of public speaking.  www.thebigtalknyc.com

Six Degrees Society NYC Presents Fit & Fabulous with fitBallet

Start your week on a healthy note for an evening of curated matches and fitBallet.

WHEN: Monday, October 2nd. 7-9pm

WHERE: Secret NYC Location

WHAT: 2 curated 15 minute matches followed by a work out with fitBallet. A great way to make new friends in NYC unlike any other networking event.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Do I need dance experience? Not at all! The ballet exercises we incorporate into our workouts are very basic and are demonstrated by the instructor, so you'll have no trouble following along. But if you have danced before? Great! You'll be right at home.

Is this a barre class? fitBallet is not a "barre" class, because we focus on dynamic, full-body exercises, rather than high reps of small muscle movements. Most fitBallet workouts can be done anywhere: at home, at a park, or in a hotel room!

What should I bring? Water! And the desire to push yourself (while having a blast).

What should I wear? Please wear athletic clothing that shows the body's lines. The workout is barefoot, so there's no need to wear athletic shoes or socks.

COST: $30-Early Bird, $35-Standard, Free For Members
